Great news! Several of the major search engines, including google and msn have crawled our new site and have indexed it. Search engine ratings are incredily high for such an early date for both our home page and our articles page. Hoping that this will generate some traffic for this site and give us a kick start towards building a community of wireless mic users.

wireless vendor return policy

I just came across this disclaimer in an ad for a popular Shure wireless mic from an
online vendor:

"This item cannot be returned. Microphones (all types), Harmonicas, Ear Plugs, In-Ear Monitors, Heil Talk Boxes, and any other items that touch your mouth, your nose, or your inner ear cannot be returned once opened due to health laws. Please check carefully if you think you've found a place you can buy this product and return it, as this is a common practice amoung music retailers."

I'm curious to know what others may have seen/experienced regarding return policies on wireless mics?

Wireless Mics In My Dreams? Maybe I’ve Been On The Job Too Long!

Last night i dreamed that I went to see the final show of Cher’s latest farewell tour. Like all good sound men, I just happened to have a wireless handheld mic and a scanner in my pockets. When the show started, I was able to use the scanner to locate the frequency Cher’s vocal mic was on and then tune my own Shure SM58 to the same channel.

I got to sing along to the whole last verse of “Gypsies, Tramps and Thieves”.

When the song was over and Cher blew me a kiss and the audience game us a standing ovation.

We recently ran short on our rental stock of Shure U4 wireless handhelds and didn't have anything in our inventory when a good customer called looking for a last minute rental.

We had to dig deep into some old equipment to meet their need, sending them out the door with a 10 year old Shure LX vhf model. I figured we could kiss this account goodbye, since the likelihood of making it thru a show with a non-frequency agile vhf unit would not have been a good bet.

Anyway the customer came back the next day raving about the quality of the mic we had rented him, claiming that it had sounded even better than the U4 units he usually rented.

We got lucky, but this really made me stop and think about the fact that poor frequency allocation and management by the FCC has made a lot of perfectly good equipment all but useless.

The old LX unit had a Beta 58 capsule (the same as the new U4 model-and the best capsule going for vocals in my opinion). It had good range, reasonable battery life, rock solid durability, and every other feature you would want in a wireless handheld.

It's a shame that there isn't a way, at reasonable cost, to breathe a little more life into such a great mic package.

is this really possible?

Just got the latest catalog from Musician's Friend, a source of musical equipment that sends us a catalog about once a week. We've gotten a number of items from them, always with satisfactory quality, so i was amazed to find one of their cover specials was a handheld wireless mic for $19.99.

Is this possible? I know we're not talking Broadway musical quality, but this doesn't look like a Mr. Microphone either.

Its tempting to order one of these just to see what it is.

I'm really curious as to what experiences any of you might have had with super cheap wireless.
